Devas Worried.
Devas worried about the progress of Tripurasura. Complaint to Shiva to kill Tripurasura, but Shiva refused because of no wrongdoing of him/them. He/They only will be killed if he does the wrong thing(adharmic). Shiva won't kill demon if they obey Him or follow dharma.

Devas went to Brahma and Vishnu for help. Vishnu gave the idea to Devas to make the Tripurasuras become sinners (not pray Shiva, reject Vedas, etc.)
So Vishnu created a man and 4 followers to deceive the people of Tripurasura.  The man finally deceived people to not pray Shiva, no yagna, reject Vedas, no sacrifice for Devas, etc. Even Narada got 'deceived' and follow the new religion. Tripurasuras see Narada, they also followed. Follow the pisacha dharma.
Devas went back to Shiva ask for help to kill Tripurasura. Shiva killed Tripurasura.
Once the task to deceive is finished, the man asked Vishnu and Brahma what is next task? Vishnu told the man to go to the desert and stay there until kali yuga. During kaliyuga he and his 4 followers need to preach demoniac religion to deceive the people there. This story links to MAHAMADA in Bhavisya Purana.

 Arulattam/ Trance and Saiva Siddhantam Meaning of Trance Trance is actually when a bhakta reaches the height of Bhakti (paravasam), after went through vratham, pujas, meditations, etc., the mind is fully engrossed with the deity one prays,  the atma will be connected with the Paramporul within one’s body.
