Menstruation is an issue for Hindus especially when it involves agamic rules and rituals, But it won't affect in terms of Bhakti or devotion. Hindus must understand these differences.
According to Hinduism, agamic rules applied in building temples and its
ritual. Through generations Hindu women do not visit temples, enter prayer
rooms, or doing anything related to prayer rituals during their menstrual periods.
There are many reasons.
1. In many Hindu temples, we don’t do funeral compare to mosque/church (don't compare Hindu temples with other religious structures). Do you think why? It is because it will pollute the temple’s Godly vibration. Menstruation is an issue for Hindus under the agamic rules. In both cases (funeral and menstruation), decaying human body cells is discharged/destroyed and this will pollute the entire surrounding. If you don’t believe it, please keep a dead rat in your house for a few days, you will understand the reason. Every single particle from the dead rat will pollute the environment. Hindu temples are not just a building, there is scientific reason in structure and ritual in temples.
2. Hinduism never prohibits a woman from praying the Lord
during this period. A woman/ human was supposed to remember the almighty, as a
devoted Hindu, one should recite the name/mantra/namah of their choice all the
time if possible.
3. Temples were built according to agamic rules compared to
non-Hindu religious buildings built without this kind of rule. The statues
were functioning based on the principle of yantra (machine), mantra (formula), and
tantra (technics). Vibration and sound play an important role in the garbha graha
( main deity). The rays will be disturbed/polluted if a menstruating woman
enters. If it is polluted, it will affect the other devotees who entered the
temple. It is said that, if a temple is polluted by this kind of pollution, the
temple needs to redo Kumbha abishegam ( the main abhisheka will be conducted every
12 years once) immediately. So it is a sin for a woman who enters the temple.
4. The human body got aura/ electromagnetic emission, based
on Kirlian photos, it changes according to the mind and physical condition of a
person. When a woman in menstruation, the positive energy reduced and there
will be more negative energy. During this period, when a woman in the period, she
will disperse/discharge the negative energy into anything she touches. It is the same goes to a man
if any (polluted). For example, a man attended a funeral ( human body when
reaching death, our brain will prepare/release chemicals to decay the cell,
dogs can detect that). Or a newborn child’s house, if you bring another
newly born baby/child into the house the child will be ‘infected’ with certain
types of greenish ‘diarrhea’. Do you
think why? The child is polluted by the germs/negative energy. etc.
5. Devotion and ritual (agamic rule) are 2 different things. Through
devotion, we can pray to God at any time. No restriction. But in rituals,
there are certain rules that need to be followed, otherwise is no use practicing the
particular ritual. Please do not mix both.
6. Hinduism consists of 4 paths, please do not mix up the
teachings of a different path into one another.
Most non-Hindus, atheists, and propagandists always try
confusing the Hindus. So Hindus, please don't compare with the non- Hindus. Finally, by avoiding temples during this period, you (women) will not lose anything. Only the ego holds
the person. So just let go of the ego and you might help many people pray peacefully and the sanctity of temples will be agamic.
7. Hindu scriptures clearly mentioned about prohibition for 3 days for those on menstruation. Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, Aangirasa smriti, Aapasthamba smriti and
Vyaasa smriti mentioned on this prohibitions. Even the Kamakya Temple in Guwahati, Assam will be closed for 3 days! The practice of avoiding temples by Hindu women even mentioned in Tamil literature such as Purananuru 299 of Ettutokai. "...A woman in her menses period does not touch the cooking vessels. They worship God Murugan standing outside the temple. As the woman does, the horse that ate ghee-rice-food stands away while the other horse runs through." Purananuru 299, By Ponmudiyar written 2nd BC. It is also mentioned in Manusmriti 5.66. (A woman) is purified ..., and a menstruating female becomes pure by bathing after the menstrual secretion has ceased (to flow).
8. One may test yourself if you don't believe it. You may ask a menstruating unmarried girl to touch any Tulsi plant. The plant will wilt and dry the part touched. you also may do another test by asking the girl to carry young babies, the baby will fall sick ( some kind of greenish diarrhea). So, the question is how the plant and the baby affected? Definitely, some kind of negative energy or entity creates such an effect.
Dear Hindu women, by avoiding a temple for a few days won't affect your spiritual progress. And I am sure, no Hindu women will question all these Hindu customary rules. Only those, the so-called pagatharivu (rational thinker / EV Ramasamy Periyavengayum kootham), Karuppar Kootham, or Crypto Hindu (pretend as Hindus but they are not) will claim such.
